When we assess your care needs, we look only for what you can do for yourself and ignore any support others give you.  If you are not able to achieve an outcome outlined in the 10 care assessment questions, or cannot do it without help, or if doing it causes a lot of pain or anxiety or puts your safety at risk, your answer will be ‘I cannot do this without help.’

If you have over £23,250 in savings and investments, you’ll have to pay the total costs of your care, unless your care needs fall into a small number of categories where the NHS can fund social care. The financial assessment will consider half of any jointly owned savings or investments.

You will still need a financial assessment if you have less than £23,250. This assessment will also look at any income and earnings you have, such as your pension, to work out how much you will need to pay for your care.
